BLOWN AWAY - is about the best I can say, I read the book several times as a boy at military boarding school because it captured my spirit then as it did tonight to see it on the big screen (well my home cinema which hasn't seen so much use lately)
I once read it at school through the entire night, i stayed up for over 48 hours and finished it in almost one go with the exception of some classes, the grnadeur ans spirit of it are simply stunning and now I can't wait to see the next two, I watched the original cartoon/masked version and was always completely gutted that it was only half the entire story, I wished that someone would finish it, but in the end the book sufficed, now (and in fact for some time) it has been lovingly re-created and having watched the first one I just wish I had watched them earlier but life gets in the way and it's a big commitment from a busy dad.
I'll watch the other two soon though now as I have been putting off starting it for that very reason, I want to stay up and watch the next one now, and possibly the final one after but my home cinema is simply too loud to watch it as I have tonight with the subwoofer booming and the sound swirling around the room, it's not the sort of thing to watch in the quiet, it begs to be enjoyed loudly and on a big screen, whilst not as big as the cinema it's a great environment to watch it in when I've got the chance.
Maybe it's because it had such an effect on my childhood during a troublesome and stressful time that I find myself regressing now but either way the emotions are high and memories of happy but often dark times are flooding back, no matter what I am looking forward to the next one, must convince my wife to go out again....
