I'm writing this through the mail interface on Blogger from my offline Outlook which means no fancy linking etc but will tidy it up later probably. Also from previous experience the formatting will be off and not look as nice as I like it but since I am struggling to get a decent connection here (well
reliable really) on my work laptop it will have to do.
UPDATE: as predicted formatting off etc so cleaning up now I'm in the office
There are times when wireless connectivity and data transfer work as if by magic and these times are sweet, the current best example is my Nokia 6680 and the Image Store app I mentioned before, what I really like now is the way I can blog decent quality pictures so easily, it goes something like this:
Take several 1.3 MP pictures on the phone wherever I am, get near my laptop and the PC suite finds the phone, automagically connects and launches the Image store, this scans the contents of the phone for new photos or video since the last connect, once found it transfers them off the phone to a specific folder on the laptop and deletes them off the phone (good for space management), once done it opens a windows explorer window to show the photos stored by date taken sub directories, I select all or a subset of I've got photos from different events, right click and choose "Send to Flickr" which is a great app from the splendiferous Flickr guys, choose some relevant tags from my fauxonomy and hit upload.
Et voila my 1280x960 300DPI photos WITH exif data are all on Flickr, easily put into sets and edited for titles and whacky descriptions (something a lot of people do, try searching for DSC on Flickr !!!)
Those that I want in my Blog can be sent over with a simple click of the "Blog This" button (although I do hate the extra crap HTML it puts around these but simple matter to tidy up in Blogger) Of course if I am not at the PC I have a number of other options :
Mail direct from handset (props to Nokia for this being Sooooo simple) to either Flickr or Flickr+Blog at the same time OR direct to my Blogger mobile which is linked to my main blog
MMS it as above but why FGS !! MMS is so mobile 1.0 ;)
And then if I have a decent connection on the laptop in the first place (wifi anyone) then upload direct from the website (Flickr or Blogger)
My preference is to put everything on Flickr and use that as my photo store, that way it's automatically got my relevant tags and can be found easily by the excellent Technorati or the newer Icerocket which both support this, for example try these links for each :
So as I sit on this train with no wifi, an unreliable 3G/GPRS connection I have a plethora of devices that SHOULD mean I can be totally connected but I am not which sucks, this stuff has to be more simple AND reliable than it is, I like reading the exploits of Joi Ito and the connexion service on his
Lufthansa flight from Japan, now that's they way it should be, on the GNER train I get to London regularly I can at least now almost be sure of a power socket (and god it sucks when there isn't one) and can almost get a good connection but there's no way I can make a Podcast over skype and publish it all from the train !!
