Pandora Revealed

I got an invite from Tom and signed up this morning (painlessly I may add, all I had to do was create a password, I like that sort of thing) and am currently listening through some new music based on a single seed artist and have to say that so far it's amazingly good !!

I choose Placebo as a see artist and since then I have had full quality music streaming out of the player built in to the site from bands like Everclear, Ima Robot and Robert Pollard none of which I have listened to before but I've enjoyed each track.

It's sooooo nice to get new music that I like sooooo easily from a simple to use interface that then allows me to go find and buy the stuff, I don't expect to be listening to my iTunes library for a little while at this rate.

One small caveat is that I have been played three Placebo tracks which is slightly odd as I have already stated they are a favourite artist ! but hey they are so I don't mind.

I have looked at several recommendation/discovery engines over the years and was impressed with SavageBeast which was what I last saw from Music Genome Project, this is now what Pandora is and all previous sites re-direct to Pandora, of course the problem with recommendation / discover engines is that you need to test them over a longish period of time so that you can get a real feel for what it is telling you, this is what I'll be doing so will report back later.

I am a little confused right now as I dug through my stack of business cards as had a nagging memory, I met an Israeli company called Music Genome back at 3GSM in Cannes and was impressed with their ability to get my musical taste after 20 or so hits (more than most apparently) but I'm pretty sure this isn't the same thing, one because Tom is based in Oakland CA and another because I remember asking the people I met at 3GSM and they said they were different but then my memory is failing so may be wrong ....

Good job Tom
