Updating and Installing

I've spent the last few days installing and updating numerous things, it never ceases to amaze me just how many patches, updates & drivers, not to mention reboots a new install of XP takes, it's a simple enough process but just massively time consuming and annoying to say the least, probably not the sort of thing I should have done while trying to give up smoking!

I've also updated Skype, nothing major that I can see but the UI facelift is nice enough, still have to say that I like the clean lines of Google Talk nore still, and I also like the chat notification of GT more, maybe I'm just a Google fanboy but I like what I like, so far 6 have signed up with 5 invites outstanding, one has a good excuse in that he is travelling the world right now but you can check his progress here, more drinking than blogging in his life right now though so very sparodic updates.

What else, oh yea I upgraded my account on Last.fm which seemed like the thing to do, I still get the odd hiccup in the stream despite my guaranteed slot , I've turned on Discovery Mode so will see how that goes, check out my profile for what it ends up sending my way in terms of new discoveries... (interesting to see my download traffic at 330kB/Sec during Last.fm use when I'm pretty certain nothing else is going on) I also updated the Last.fm player which now has a very handy UI that allows you to create a station right from the player and not have to go to the website first, now that I like too and works well.

Still been playing with Pandora which I like but am finding that it doesn't bring the variety that last.fm does or at least feels that way, haven't found the station history there yet either which doesn't help of course as I can easily track back what Last.fm plays me. (just stopped the player and PC stopped hammering HDD and down traffic dried up to nothing as expected so the new player is a bit of a hog)

My mate in Sweden who is part owner of a large chain of internet cafes there also told me he read ny blog, saw Konfabulator and now loves using it which is cool, I took it off as I was having a lot of problems with it, if I get enough guts up to rebuild this machine I'll try it again but I need a rest from Windows Update for a while....

Gonna spend the weekend with the kids and mostly away from the PC, got to make the most of this weather!
