The wonders of travel

I've been travelling a lot for the last few years, not as much as some but more than most if you get my drift, I'm up to about 400,000 airmiles to put it in perspective) and I've noticed some changes other than the obvious ones of increased security etc.

The main one is that for most of my flights now I keep listening to my iPod all the way through, I would say on 90% of flights the attendants never bother me during take off and landing with the fact I am listening to my iPod, does this mean that there is some secret code that excludes the mighty iPod from "Please turn off ALL electrical equipment during take off and landing" ?? Or is it just that they are so common place now that the majority of cabin staff don't bother to even ask anymore?

That being said there are the odd flights when I get a polite nudge and asked to remove, the stupid thing is that I take out the earphones but don’t stop it so they achieve nothing, and when they have been told to take their seats by the captain I pop the earphones back in again of course :)

Another strange thing is that the last three times through Schipol airport I have been asked to take off my watch at the security scan and put it through the X-Ray machine, it's the only place I've ever been asked to so far but I guess there is another secret rule that states at Schipol you must take off any watch like mine and put it through, I never seen anyone else being asked to and almost everyone wears one !

One last one for now is that I check in online before I travel, for the first leg from Durham Tees Valley to Amsterdam I always get an exit row seat, aisle, plenty of leg space etc but every time I try to get one on the Amsterdam to Paris leg they are always full, however every time I get on the flight they are mostly empty, even if it's  KLM flight as opposed to a Air France which I could kind of get, so much for accurate web services! (of course I just move to them If they are empty and carry on iPodding and enjoying the legroom)

Caveat > This is all relating to KLM flights, on a BMI Baby flight I was told off both times for listening to my iPod and none too politely either, get with the times Baby!)
