In a nutshell it fixes the problem of being in a foreign city and not realising that someone you know is also there at the same time, it puts travellers in touch.
On top of this the design is top notch, especially for an Alpha, there are some niggles but Matt is aware of and working on these
From my point of view I especially like the fact it has a mobile interface, I spoke with Matt and asked him to add the ability to text in an Airport code and have it set your location against your planned trips automatically.
I already knew Nat was going to Oscon (he chairs it after all) but if I hadn't then Dopplr would have told me and I can leave him a note to meetup etc.
Even without the social aspect of it the slick, simple design means it's a good place to plan out your trips, you can see a timelime that isn't obvious in Calendars like iCal and Outlook, check mine out here
It's in Gmail invite only mode right now but looking forward to some invites as are most people on the service right now
