Flickr'd out .....

In my efforts to get my photo library online I have got about halfway (I think) and have 2364 photos on Flickr now, I'm at 77% of my monthly allowed traffic (2GB) and sick of it already to be honest !!

I am doing this as I love Flickr, I am basically upgrading my current backup methods (DVDR and copy to another machine/hard disk) to keeping it all on Flickr as (I'm hoping) they'll do a great job of keeping them safe, especially as they moved to CA and Yahoo! servers.

However I have found that Flickr is simply NOT a good backup solution IF you have a lot of old photos to go up, the batch tools are ok but some really key features are missing for someone like me.

To explain: All my photos are currently in folders on my disk "Xmas 2004, 2nd Birthday" etc, I am uploading each folder at a time and want to replicate this on Flickr using sets which is the closest you get, but If I put 100+ up in one go I have to edit the Titles individually and then even more annoying is that I have to go to Organize and search for them again to make a set !!

So what I would really like is "Upload this folder to flickr and make a set called "XX" and set tags to "XX, XX", now that would be cool and knowing me might exist somewhere but I can't find it.

Even better would be direct integration into something like Picasa, I know Google owns it but you get the point. A desktop management tool directly integrated to Flickr would rock.

I've read a lot about getting rid of folders and hierachical structures for filing but whilst I understand the principal I still can't bring myself to do it despite actually using desktop tools to find stuff already, I guess I need to give up and go the whole hog and dump everything in one big folder and test the theory, still I do love a good folder structure ........
